On November 2, 1939, just two months after the UK and France declared war on Germany beginning Word War II, the Brownies held their first meeting in Greenfield.
Under the leadership of Mrs. Richard Strickland (Madge [Leamon] Strickland), with the assistance of Mrs. Ed Wolfe, Jr. (Fern [Martindale] Wolfe) and Mrs. James Samuels (Wauneta M. [Boring] Samuels), these seventeen girls joined the ranks of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides around the world.
